Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report has brought attention to the absence of any West Bengal MPs in the top 50 attendance list for the 17th Lok Sabha sessions, despite the parliament witnessing 273 sittings over the past five years. Khagen Murmu, representing Malda Uttar, emerged as the highest-ranking Bengal MP with 94.1% attendance, while notable TMC figures like Dev and Abhishek Banerjee recorded significantly lower attendance percentages, reflecting a disparity in parliamentary engagement.
Among BJP MPs, individuals like Kumar Hembram and Raju Bista showcased high attendance levels, contrasting with Union Minister Nisith Pramanik's notably low attendance record. However, ADR members highlighted the challenge of accurate attendance recording due to MPs occasionally failing to sign the register, particularly significant figures such as ministers, the Leader of Opposition, and the Prime Minister.
